Knitting for animal charities
National Knitting Week takes place from the 6th to 12th October 2014. If you're a knitter or you'd like to try, you could help animals and animal charities by doing some knitting!
Your knitting can help dogs, cats, horses and donkeys in the UK and abroad, and the UK Hand Knitting Association has put a list of charities that need knitters together which gives their names and details.
Knitting for animals could be a great way to while away the cold, dark winter months. My auntie Susan did lots of knitting for her local animal charity in New Zealand. She did lots of squares for the cats in the rescue, and it gave her knitting purpose.
The UK Hand Knitting Association has details of lots of knitting courses available in the UK, so as well as helping animals, this could be a great way to pick up a new interest and meet new people. There's also a page on Men who Knit, and there are even lots of knitting groups for children!
You'll also find lots of free knitting patterns here.
