Videos about helping wildlife in your garden, National Nest Box Week & Volunteer Surveys...

As we make our way through the winter, if you're looking out into your garden thinking about ways you can help wildlife there, there are some great videos on the Sussex Wildlife Trust's website to help you.

These include:
  • How to build a wildlife pond
  • How to choose the right nest box for your garden
  • Bird feeding tips - food and feeders
  • Bird feeding tips - cleaning, when and where to feed the birds
  • How to help bees in your garden
  • How to tell the difference between frog and toad spawn.

Their videos reminded me that it's not long to National Nest Box Week in mid-February, which encourages us all to put up nesting boxes in our gardens and around and about for our feathered friends.   Natural nest sites for birds - such as holes in trees or old buildings - are vanishing quickly as old houses are repaired and gardens are tidied up.  So taking part in this week gives us all the chance to do our bit for bird and wildlife conservation.   It also means we can enjoy the sight and sounds of the birds visiting our gardens and tucking in.

The week is organised by the British Trust for Ornithology, which has lots of information on its website about birds as you can imagine.  They also have lots of ways you can help birds, and these include taking part in volunteer surveys to help the Trust build up their knowledge and understanding of bird numbers.  You can visit their website to find out more here
