Choosing sustainable fish

The Marine Conservation Society has produced a new version of their Pocket Good Fish Guide

It's no larger than a credit card and it folds into a mine of information about choosing sustainable fish.  It has the latest Fish to Eat and Fish to Avoid lists, and info on how to make the best choices when it comes to things like fish fingers and scampi.  There's also ideas with alternatives to the favourite five and you can download an app to your smart phone to help you as well.

The MSC has a website, www.fishonline.org.  Their Fish of the Month recipe will help you choose sustainable fish all the year around.

The site has a Supermarket Seafood survey showing how seriously retailers take sustainability - by assessing their seafood policies, sourcing, labelling and other indicators.  The survey is done every two years, the last one being done in 2013 so another must be due!  The last survey shows that M&S and Sainsbury's were leading the way, followed by The Co-Operative and then Waitrose.

There's lots more info at www.fishonline.org.
