The annual big race meet at Cheltenham is nearly here as I type this, and with it an opportunity to raise awareness of the charities taking in racehorses after their racing careers.
You can find a list of charities helping retired racehorses here. Many racehorses have second careers, be it as companions to other horses, happy hackers with people who are happy to hack them, or to train for completely different equestrian activities.
Clearly there are many racehorses who cannot be or are not helped, and the rights and wrongs of horse-racing can be long debated, but I just wanted to highlight the charities who are helping them - this could be an opportunity for you to get involved and help the horses in one way or another.
I don't want to forget the Retired Greyhound Trust, either - they have roughly 75 branches around the UK, all looking for help, whether it's hands-on with the dogs, or helping to raise funds, or re-homing a greyhound. Contrary to popular belief, greyhounds only need 20 minutes walkies twice a day - after which it's time to settle to some serious zzzzzz, preferably on a nice comfy sofa!
And you can collect your stamps for the Retired Greyhound Trust - please send them to:
