It's Meat Free Week 23-29 March 2015

This week is Meat Free Week from 23 - 29 March.

Meat Free Week is a global campaign to encourage you to think about how much meat you eat, and what impact that has, both on your health (Beating Bowel Cancer is part of this campaign) and the environment.

The campaign is covering all meat - red meat, poultry, processed meat (such as ham, bacon, salami and packaged sandwich meats), fish and seafood.

The founders' vision is to see people all around the world participating in Meat Free Week.  The campaign wants people to choose to eat less, care more and feel good.

If we can all go meat free for one week of the year, or have a vegetarian meal when we're eating out, or choose to have a vegetarian meal once a month or once a week or once a fortnight... that will help make a difference.

You and I can help spread the word about Meat Free Week and tell other animal lovers about it, and anyone who cares about their health and their environment.

From the Meat Free Week's website, here are some thoughts to consider;
  • More than 66 million farm animals are slaughtered every year to feed 7 billion people
  • 2 in 3 farm animals in the world are factoryfarmed
  • We all have the power to make a positive difference to our health, to animals and their welfare and to the environment
  • 1/3 of the world's cereal harvest is fed to farm animals - that's enough to feed 3 billion people
Please visit Meat Free Week's website to find out more about this campaign.   And if you want to get some ideas for vegetarian recipes, visit the Vegetarian Society's website where you'll find lots more resources and ideas.  And check out Compassion in World Farming
